Former Antwerp legend, whose career was overshadowed by the war and injuries. He was powerful inside forward with excellent technique and he was fantastic free kick taker. Very talented player, because of his physique he was able to generate a lot of power that made his free kicks almost impossible to parry the ball for a goalkeeper. On top of that he was able to send pinpoint crosspasses for over 30-40 meters. Van Den Audenaerde attended the youth series of Antwerp FC and made his debut as a 16-year-old on March 25, 1940 in the first team of the first division in the home match against city rivals AC Beerschot. He immediately gained a place in the starting as a striker and played all the remaining games of the season. The career of Van Den Audenaerde was interrupted by World War II, which the Belgian football for several years was put stop. In 1944 conquered Van Den Audenaerde with the team, which also played football the international Bob Paverick, the league title. In the 1945-46 season the team finished second in the overall standings. The following year, the team finished consistently in the first half of the ranking. He was drafted either as a striker or as an attacking midfielder. Van Den Audenaerde scored more than ten goals each season, the 1945-46 and 1942-43 seasons were his best seasons with 17 goals scored and 16 respectively. On December 24, 1944, Van Den Audenaerde first prepared in the Belgian football team in the away match against France. In total, he was selected eight times between 1944 and 1948 for the national team and he played five international matches in which he was always prepared.
