INFO:
Avalle was a half-back or inside forward. He spent almost he entire career at Alessandria, making 274 appearances from 1923 to 1934, scoring 32 goals. He retired in 1935 after a short experience at Sampierdarenese. Often called-up for Italy, he never debuted with the first team but capped 8 times with the B team, scoring twice.
Avalle was a very versatile player, who acted mainly in midfield ─ where he excelled ─ but was often used in more offensive positions. Regardless of his position though, he always played with high efficiency and consistency, having very rarely a bad performance. A hard working and combative player, his main quality was his great resistance that made him constantly capable of driving his team forward and supporting great players like Adolfo Baloncieri and Giovanni Ferrari. He was tough, very strong and hard tackling, possessed good footwork and a powerful shot. Sometimes he even shot on goal more than the entire forward line. In fact, he managed to score respectively 7, 9 and 7 goals in the 1925-26, 1929-30 and 1930-31 seasons. A good passer, he liked setting up the play and exchanging the ball with his teammates while advancing forward, usually after protecting the ball from the opponents with accurate dribblings. He occasionally took free kicks.
