He formed formidable defensive partnership with Josef Blum at his club First Vienna. Karl was very gifted technically for a defender, with intelligent positional play, great elegancy, complete tactical vision, very reliable. He never made unnecessery foul or mistake in passing and his vision of play and aticipation allowed him to make clear cuts of the rival attacks. Although he wasn't particularly strong physically neither much offensive like most of defenders at the time, but very consistent and reliable for many years. That's how he managed to collect an impressive 882 games for his club.
