Platzer was the reserve of Rudi Hiden in Wunderteam, although worldclass keeper himself, he couldn't get any chance for playing till Hiden moved to France. Platzer was reliable keeper with good reflexes and jumping abilities, he also knew to save some penalties. He was very good in blocking shots, even the most powerful and from long range as well as from close distance, he was able to repeat such a saves and blocking couple of shots in a row. He was better on line than in coverage of his box and wasn't always consistent on club level, especially in the later stage of his career.
