Gellesch was pretty similar to Fritz Szepan, had excellent tactical awareness, great vision and technique, not impressive pace but had numerous assists. Rudi Gellesch celebrated as a player with the miners three championships and a Cup victory, stood in the legendary Breslau-Elf and took part in the 1938 World Cup in France.
