He was born in Udine. Along with teammate Pietro Rava at Juventus, they were the best defensive partnership in the 1936 Summer Olympics and 1938 FIFA World Cup. He played for Udinese, Lazio, Padova and Juventus. He coached in Italy and Switzerland. He won two consecutive scudettoes with FC Internazionale in 1953 and 1954. He later coached Switzerland in the 1966 FIFA World Cup. Foni died in Lugano, Switzerland. He played right-back role and forming couple with Pietro Rava. Foni is one of only four Italian players, along with the before mentioned Rava, Ugo Locatelli ans Sergio Bertoni, who won both the World Cup gold medal at the Olympic Games. Called to replace Virginio Rosetta, played for Juventus from 1934 to 1947, never missed a game for seven championships from 1935 to 1942. In total he racked up 266 league appearances for Juventus for a total of 370 matches in Serie A, where he began February 2, 1930 in knitting biancoceleste against Pro Vercelli. For the National Team made his debut in August 3, 1936 at the Berlin Olympics, where he won the gold medal. He completely substituted Roma's right back Eraldo Monzeglio exactly at World Cup 1938, formatting also in NT a copy with Rava and also winning the title. |
