Karl was very important part of German NT in 30's, in fact many experts claim his injury against Sweden cost Germany a place in the final of the WC '34. He was centre forward or inside left, very agile and explosive player, technically gifted with excellent positioning in the box, good shooter and pretty mobile player. He played in the youth since 1916 for VfL Benrath (in Dusseldorf Benrath). At the end of the twenties, he moved up into the first team. On 18 In May 1930 he played with VfL Benrath in the second round to the German football championship against Eintracht Frankfurt. The game, however, was lost with 0:1. In 1935, he reached the semi-finals with VfL Benrath the German football championship, which on 2 June 1935 was lost in Leipzig against VfB Stuttgart 2:3. He came into the final round of the German football championship 15 appearances 1930-1935 where he scored 9 goals. From 1937 to 1939 he played for FK Pirmasens. The German national football team, he was in the period from 1 September 1930 until 25 June 1937 26 times and scored 20 active listings. His first goal he scored in his first game at 1 September 1930 against Denmark. He participated with the team at the Football World Cup 1934 in Italy. The team took third place at the World Cup. but in this game Hohmann could not be used because he was injured in the semifinal against Sweden through a collision with the Swedish keeper Anders Rydberg. In this game he scored twice for Germany. In the case of the 1934 World Cup, he was twice used. On 4 August 1936 he played for Germany at the 1936 Olympics at 9-0 against Luxembourg but in which he did not score. In June 1949, he was appointed as successor to Raymond Schwab, manager of Rot-Weiss Essen. With RWE he was on 1 May 1953 German Cup. In the first official DFB Cup final Rot-Weiss Essen defeated, among others, Fritz Herkenrath, Helmut Rahn, Franz and Bernhard Islacker Termath the Rhine stadium in Dusseldorf Alemannia Aachen 2-1. After the end of the season 1953/1954 he finished his commitment to food and was replaced by Fritz Szepan. From 1955 bs 1958, he coached the club in the 2nd game Rheydter League West. He was also active in the Southwest Teachers Association Sport. Because of a serious illness ended Hohmann 1962 his work as a trainer. Then he opened a sports shop on Benrather market. On 31 March 1974 he died of heart failure in a hospital. In tribute to Karl Hohmann a street in Dusseldorf Benrath was named. The stadium of VfL Benrath also bears his name.
