INFO:

Guido Masetti was the best ever AS Roma keeper, catlike agile keeper with good reflexes and flights, solid positioning and did well in saving penalties. On the other side had problems with ball catching and handling. He was undisputed captain and moral leader on the pitch. He began his career in Verona, his hometown team, initially as a midfielder and then as a goalkeeper. He moved to Rome in the 1930-1931 season. He started his career in Serie A with AS Roma shirt September 28, 1930 in Modena-Roma finished 1-1. With a lively and cheerful character, famous for his jokes, was considered one of the fundamental elements of the Roman team which was also the captain. He played 339 games with Roma, becoming one of the most loyal players of the team with which he became the Champion of Italy in the 1941-1942 season, when he had now reached the end of his football career, which ended February 18, 1943. Was also part of the two expeditions that brought the blue title of the Italian national champion in 1934 and 1938, was the third goalkeeper behind Gianpiero Combi and Aldo Olivieri, even without playing a match of the two competitions. Throughout his career in blue played two games, both against the Swiss national. As a coach Masetti had little luck: he was player-coach for half the season of Rome in 1943 and then coached the Giallorossi during the war for two seasons, winning the Championship Roman. Resumed the Italian league, Masetti moved to Gubbio where he held the dual role of player-coach, winning the Serie C 1946-1947, and resulting in the only decisive promotion to Serie B team in the history of Umbria. He returned to Rome in the 1950-1951 season, trying to save the team from Serie B. Trained in the following season, replacing the sacked Palermo Remo Galli. In 1955 he went to coach the Colleferro. Trained for the last time Rome even in the sixties, for a short period during a year 1956-1957. Guido Masetti died in 1993.
