Quote:
'The Spider', as he was nicknamed (because of his remarkably long legs), was already considered one of his country's most reliable and dangerous full-backs. He'd often swap positions with his left- or right-winger towards the end of tight games for his club Racing, when his physical presence (he was 1.87m tall, a giant by the standards of that time) could create havoc in the opposition camp. Diagne’s creed was constantly noted: he became known as L’Araignée noir (The Black Spider) for his long legs, stamina and fierce tackles. The 1.87 m tall, elegant and long-legged defensive player, who in 1929 had also become the state student master in the high jump (best performance 1.85 m), convinced with agility and feeling for the ball. He was also versatile, very endurable and a master of ball conquest with fair means. His infinite legs look like rubber and stretch, he is surprisingly flexible and this is his primordial quality, he is solid as a rock, an effective defender even if sometimes lacks precision within the distribution of the game.
