He was, speaking exclusively in technical aspects, almost perfect. His elegance and immense ability to dribble made him to be compared to Sindelar by some french newspapers, after the game in the 1934 WC between France and Austria. He was nicknamed "The French Sindelar". He didn't have the same role in the field, because, he did not played like a fake CF; but he had similar technical abilities. He had also a very good vision of the game, good passing range, and a powerful and precise shot. But he suffered from the problems that are common in many brilliant players: sometimes he appeared completely disconnected of the game. The inconstancy in his games prevent him from being much more than he is in the history of the french football. The center forward, who grew up as the son of a family of Spanish origin in the French Algeria, completed from 1931-1935 eleven games for the French national football team, where he scored two goals. With the Football World Cup 1934 in Italy Alcazar belonged to the squad of Les Bleus. He was in the team that was defeated in the second round against Austria after extension with 2:3 and was eliminated from the tournament. In 1935, Pepito won with Olympique Marseille French Cup. For OM scoring 1932-1936 in 91 Premier League matches 65 matches, including Marseilles very first goal in this professional league, in this "debut season," he was also the third best scorer in Division 1. Joseph died in 1979. |
