Joseph Gardiner Absolom Bambrick (03/11/1905 - 13/10/1983), was a former footballer who at club level played for Glentoran, Linfield, Chelsea and Walsall.
BIOGRAPHY
Bambrick scored a magnificent 12 goals in 11 games for Ireland (IFA) including six in one game againts Wales. Chided by defeated Welsh goalkeeper afterward for six kick of the ball and you get six goals.
A former gas worker of medium build, he was a prolific goalscorer,adept at getting into good scoring positions and athlete enough to make the final touch count. "Head, heel or toe, Slip it to Joe" became a famous catch phrase when reffering to him. His scoring of 6 goals for Ireland vs Wales at Celtic Park on the 1st February 1930 in a 7-0 win, still remains the record score for a British Isles player in a international fixture.
