He was extremely strong, fast striker, who had good shots with both feet and good header - a typical English forward. He wasn't really a technically gifted player but, when a goal was needed, Ted was there to step up and score. He also was good playing with his back to the goal, when receiving a ball and playing a return ball for inside forwards. He was a courageous player, really brave, he always gave 100% on the pitch, and his hunger for goals was incredible. He still holds the record in English league for the most goals scored in one match - he netted 7 against Aston Villa in 1935. His bravery often led to injuries, in 1938 in a match against Brentford, he broke two bones in his wrist, received nine stitches to a head wound and was carried off the pitch twice - the second time unconscious. Ted played for England in 5 games scoring 6 times.
