Ferrero was a wing-half, mainly on the right. He spent the majority of his career at Casale, playing from 1931 to 1935 and 1937 to 1943 for a total 199 appearances and 9 goals. He also had an underwhelming spell at Alessandria from 1935 to 1937.
Ferrero was a tough and tenacious midfielder who didn't know when to give up and kept playing until the referee whistled the very end of the match. As he wasn't technically very gifted, he was focused in stopping the opposition's attacks. Nonetheless, he knew how to start a counterattack and make forward runs to look for scoring opportunities. He was quite agile and capable of making high leaps.
