Guido Dossena was a midfielder. At the beginning of his career he played in attack as inside forward for Reggina but due to his low scoring rate, he was converted to half-back. He scored for the club 15 goals in 78 matches between 1928 and 1932. He transferred to Livorno where he played for two seasons, scoring 10 goals in 45 matches. He mantained the half-back position but he played also as full-back. Then he joined Lucchese, where he appeared in 131 games between 1934 and 1940, scoring twice. He retired in 1947 after spells at Crema and Legnano.
As inside forward, he had tactical intelligence and could attack but what he preferred to do was helping in defence and build up the play. For this reason he became a half-back where his efficiency increased. His playstyle was simple and linear, his technique was decent, his teamwork was exemplar, his range could go from the back to forward thanks to his continuous strides and endless stamina; he was a barricade in defence, a punisher in attack − of course his game gradually became more and more defensive throughout his career.
