Petri was a defender. An excellent full-back, he played 171 matches and scored 9 goals for Lucchese between 1929 and 1935, mostly in Prima Divisione − Italian third level at the time − and one season in Serie B. Despite playing in inferior leagues, he was noticed by Bologna. He stayed with the Rossoblu in 1935-36, winning the Serie A. Unfortunately he didn't play any game due to the competition with two greats like Fiorini and Gasperi. Then he was about to join Roma − proving that he could've played at high levels − but the transfer wasn't concretized. He came back to Lucchese, where he played three seasons in Serie A but only 26 matches in total.
Petri was the typical defender whose task was to make clearances. He had speed and sprint, strength and roughness, agonism that prevailed on technique. His scoring of 11 goals in career is due to the fact that he was a good free kick taker from the distance − even from 30 and 40 metres.
