INFO:Sgarbi was a centre-half. His career started in 1921 at Spal where he spent the majority of his short career, making 111 appearances and scoring 19 goals in six seasons. He signed for Milan in 1927 and played 62 matches in two years, scoring 5 goals. He capped for Italy once in 1929. Destined to be the main centre-half of the Italian national team for many years, he tragically died of typhus on 18th August 1929.
Considered one of the best midfielders in Italy at his time, Sgarbi was strong, fair, calm, efficient and irreplaceable in the middle of the half-back line. He was gifted with tactical intelligence, good footwork, precise passing, great stamina and mentality. When his team wasn't giving their 100%, he had the ability to make up for the inefficiency of his teammates thanks to an unselfish and enough accurate style of play that gave a great support to his forwards. In fact, most of Milan's attacks started from and were developed by him. He possessed also a solid shooting ability given that he scored a fair amount of goals for a defensive player. In his only international match with Italy he played brilliantly and better than his teammates in the back-line, fighting consistently with all his energy and tenacity.
