One of the first Austrian football legends. Josef was tireless runner on the central wing half position who was also the playmaker of the team. Very consistent player, 12 years he was regular starter for Austria, great fighter and leader, regarded as one of the greatest connectors betwwen defence and attack in pre-War football. Josef Brandstätter began his football career with his younger brother Fritz at Rapid in 1908. In 1908, he was 16 years old and was already too rapid at the first big successes significantly involved. From 1912-1925 "Seppl" and Rapid x 8 x 2 were champions and cup winners. In the national team he played 42 times. He was one of the famous Rapid team that was coached by Dionys Schönecker the first Austrian football championship win in 1911/12 and subsequent years, dominated the championship. A total of eight title wins was the average runner, who became famous thanks to his tireless willingness to fight, celebrate Hütteldorf before it a crisis at the club for local rivals 1924 Vienna AF operation. After the differences were endured with the club's management, came back to Brandstätter Seppl the Green-Whites, where he served for a year until 1925 and thus a total of 16 years in the senior squad. Seppl Brandstätter was not just the playmaker was green and white, but twelve years of the national team regulars at this position. His debut was at the Olympic Games in 1912 given in Stockholm, where he worked with the team the fifth Place, reached his only two goals in the national dress of the middle runners scored in the 2-0 victory over Italy on 15 June 1913. At the end of his career came to Seppl Brandstätter ASV Hertha Vienna, in his footsteps, however, came in rapid Josef Smistik. He soon accepted an offer from Građanski to coach the team with whom he was Yugoslav champion in 1926. In 1927 he took over the coaching job at the Vienna Sports Club. Josef Brandstätter died in the last days of World War II, of pneumonia.
