INFO:
Gallina was a left winger, capable of playing also as wing half. He spent almost his whole career at Casale in two spells: the first from 1909 to 1919, scoring 19 goals in 84 matches − 11 of them during the 1913-14 title winning season — and the second between 1921 and 1925, scoring 15 times in 64 games. In the middle, he played two seasons at Juventus, though without the same success. He capped twice for Italy in 1914.
Gallina was regarded as the most technically gifted among Casale's players and his powerful left-footed knocking shots were a nightmare for the opposing goalkeepers. He was a good dribbler and possessed excellent vision of the game. When playing as wing half, his defensive play impressed the critics because he was capable of constantly protecting the back line, blocking the opposing attacks thanks especially to his speed or even retreat to his own penalty box to intercept shots and avoid the threat. His teammate Angelo Mattea described Gallina as a player who set the play and passed the ball to either him or Amedeo Varese according to the tactics of the time, when the offside rule requested three opponents between the receiver of the ball and the goal. Gallina didn't waste time at all since Casale's playstyle was based on quickness and instinct. He, Mattea and Varese knew each other so well that they acted as a one-man, rarely missing a pass. Unfortunately, Gallina wasn't able to show his skills when playing for Italy and that caused him to win only two caps.
