INFO:Varese was an inside-left. His career started in 1909 at Casale where played until 1915, making 83 appearances and scoring 37 goals and winning the 1913-14 Italian championship, scoring 23 goals in 29 league games. He had an unsuccessful season at Modena in 1915-16, playing only one match. He then signed for Milan in 1918, playing 35 games and scoring 32 goals in three years. He returned to Casale in 1921 to play one more match. He allegedly took over a decade more to retire in 1933. He capped for Italy 5 times in 1913-14.
Varese was considered a prolific scorer despite the fact the he wasn't always accurate. His shots though usually had great power and were hard for goalkeepers to stop. He was fast on long distances, energic and with limitless will. He ran towards the goal constantly and with high pace, often while exchanging passes with Mattea. Varese was mainly left-footed and liked shooting but also reaching the line to cross the ball. This way, he had to challenge defenders many times, often earning corners that he would then take. He was a super passer and assist-man. One of the best players of Casale's title winning team, he wasn't as effective with Italy. Varese scored his arguably two most important goals against Lazio in the two legs final of the 1913-14 Italian championship. One goal came in the first leg where he beat Lazio's goalkeeper with a powerful shot after he had dribbled the right-back. The other goal came in the second leg and direcly from corner kick.
