He spent his entire though short career at Casale, making 69 appearances from 1910 to 1914. He played a key role in the 1913-14 season when his team won the Italian championship, conceding only 14 goals in 27 games. A good goalkeeper, Gallina had an impressive physique for the time. He was tall, with a large chest that allowed him to cover with it. He possessed remarkable physical strength and powerful legs to make good jumps despite his imposing figure. Notably efficient in the air, he was known for his way to punch the ball from below upwards, though resulting in endangering other players, both opponents and teammates. This also led to Casale's first ever own goal on 25th January 1914 against Alessandria, when he punched a defender instead of the ball that entered the goal. His catchphrase was "head or ball!". The opposing teams were scared to try charging Gallina for obvious reasons. During the legendary match against Reading on 14th May 1913 where Casale became the first Italian team to win against an English one, Gallina impressed the opponents when he saved a powerful shot from James Lofthouse with an open palm and according to Reading, they had never seen such athletic act before.
