He spent his almost entire career at Milan, making 149 appearances from 1914 to 1924, scoring 14 goals. He was team captain from 1922 to 1924. He retired one year later after he played only once match for Internazionale, which meant for him that his career was over. Milan had many short players at the time but Soldera was shorter than anyone else. This reason closed for him the door to the national team. Nonetheless, he possessed great fighting spirit that made him a fan favourite, agility, cunning, excellent timing, great stamina and determination. He wasn't elegant but was a great ball sweeper, had great class and acted quickly either when he had to defend or support the attack. He didn't avoid physical contact as he didn't fear to charge his opponent. Therefore, referees had to sanction him multiple times. He fought on every ball until the end of the match with oustanding continuity and resilience, starting the match slowly before increasing pace and fierceness as soon as the game became more heated. He was ruthless in the defence, well prepared in the counterattack and had superb speed as he made short steps tirelessly. His kicks were insidious rather than powerful, delivering a pass with good vision to the most unmarked teammate during the attacking phase, sweeping the ball away with the tip of the foot or on the rebound but always with the right timing. |
