Lovati was a left wing-half of Argentinian origin. He spent his whole career at Milan, making 119 appearances from 1910 to 1922, scoring 7 goals. He was called up for Italy 6 times in the biennium 1920-1921 but wasn't too convincing as he didn't have much more to prove at that point of his career.
Lovati was a short but well built midfielder, strong and physically gifted, a giant despite his size and a leader for his teammates. He was very valuable in the midfield, a fierce tackler, formidable in the throw-in, extremely able in the air due to his heading. He could support defence and attack equally well with a sharp and effective playstyle, showing no hesitations.
