INFO:

Pedro Vallana Jeanguenat (* Guecho, Basque Country, Spain, November 29, 1897 - † Montevideo, Uruguay, July 4, 1980), Spanish international footballer and referee of First Division in Spain. He played right defense and his first and only team was Guecho Arenas Club.
Vallana was a mainstay of Arenas Guecho Club during the Golden Age Club Vizcaya, in the years 1910 and 1920. At the same time was also a mainstay of the Spanish national team football in the 1920s, which won a Silver Medal at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics and participated in three Olympics, has failed to record any other Spanish footballer. Once retired, was an arbiter of prestige in Spain during the Spanish Civil War, the coach of the football team Euskadi, a fact which led to their exile in Uruguay after the war.
Pedro Vallana was a native of Algorta neighborhood of Guecho (Basque Country), where he was born in 1897. All his playing career was linked to his hometown club, the Club Arenas Guecho who came in 1912 while still a teenager and where he remained until his retirement in 1929.
Vallana played as right defender. It was not too big a player (measuring 1m70), which was noted for his great speed, which he used to serve to snatch the ball into the opponent with ease. It was a good athlete, who practiced athletics in parallel with his career as a player and actually held the record of Biscay to the 100 meters between 1922 and 1928.1
In the Arenas formed a defensive tandem historic Domingo Careaga, Getxo another like him, with whom he shared for many years the team's defense.
With Arenas Vallana Spain won the Cup in 1919, which is the most successful club in the history of Biscay and was runner-up Spain Cup in other 3 cases (1917.1925 and 1927). Of the four final Arenas played in this competition, Vallana only lost 1927. In addition Vallana proclaimed his club regional champion on 4 occasions.
Vallana was still part of the template Guecho Arenas Club, when he started the new competition in the Spanish League football in 1929. However it was already a veteran player, and only got to play a game with Arenas in the Spanish First Division, was on the second day of the season 1928-29, in the field of CE Europe in Barcelona.
That same year 1929 began his career as a referee coming to debut that season as a referee in the Spanish First Division. Thus there is the unusual circumstance that Vallana came to participate in a single season in the Spanish League football as a player and referee. His career in the arbitration in Spain lasted until 1936. Vallana officiated 33 games in the Spanish First Division during those years.
In 1936 Spanish Civil War broke out temporarily putting an end to the sporting events in Spain. In early 1937 he joined Vallana coaching Selection Euzkadi national team created by the Basque government to raise funds in Europe for Basque refugees and conduct a propaganda campaign in favor of the Basque Government and the Republic. The Euzkadi made a brilliant tour of Europe disputing friendly matches. After falling into the hands Bilbao Selection Euzkadi Franco went to America to continue the tour. Due to some internal friction in the selection, since it took more than a year away from his family, decides to leave his post Vallana coach to step Euzkadi Selection of Argentina and moved to Nairobi where he arrived in 1938. His departure was not without controversy as it took 2 months of salary before leaving, as players had not been paid since leaving the country Vasco.2
Vallana was exiled in Uruguay in 1938, which he knew since he played there in 1922 a series of friendlies against a group of Basque players. Vallana brought his wife and daughters from the Basque Country later. Vallana was dedicated in Uruguay working as a newspaper sportswriter from the Uruguayan capital and also refereeing soccer matches first división.3
He died in Montevideo in July 1980.4

National team
Pedro Vallana was one of the pillars of the National team football in Spain during the 1920s, having been capped 12 times over 8 years between 1920 and 1928.
Vallana was one of those chosen to be part of the Spanish expedition to the Olympic Games in Antwerp 1920. Although it played in the opening match against Denmark, which marked the historic debut of the Spanish football team, if all other matches played Championship, contributing decisively to the achievement of the Olympic Silver Medal.
In 1924 he was again called to share with the Spanish team at the 1924 Paris Olympics. Spain, which started as a favorite, had to face in a preliminary round to the selection of Italy. With one player less, by expulsion, Spain fought back against the Italians as he could, until Vallana, 12 minutes from time, scored a goal in itself beating Ricardo Zamora goal, which involved the removal of Spain. The unfortunate own goal and famous brand Vallana was the black legend of the Spanish and marked in some way the memory of this player.
Vallana third would be called again to participate in the Olympics. It was in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. With some important players out of the tournament selection to be as professional players such as Ricardo Zamora, came to meet Vallana captaincy functions and to provide experience to a more inexperienced team than usual. He participated in the first game of the Olympics, against Mexico, which marked his last game as well as international, but was injured and could not continue the competition. Spain was eliminated in the next round in Italy.
