INFO:
Goddard was a right winger. He spent almost his entire career at Liverpool, making 414 appearances from 1902 to 1914, scoring 77 goals. He was team captain from 1909 to 1912. He previously played for Stockport County and Glossop North End. He retired in 1915 after one season at Cardiff City.
Goddard was a fantastic winger on the right, so essential that his teammate Jack Cox, who also was a right winger, had to move to the other side. Although not as prolific as other players, Goddard scored regularly. A decent penalty taker, he scored 8 penalties for Liverpool. He moved gracefully and dribbled his opponents cleverly. He could beat a half back smartly, and cross the ball with excellent accuracy. While he didn't look fast at first sight, he could cover the ground quickly with his long strides. He always was ready to go the last yard with his frantic movements, constantly troubling the defenders, sprinting past them with ease. As he didn't rely on power, he awaited for his opportunity, gliding forward down the flank, overcoming half back and full back. He was never awarded of an international cap that he surely deserved.
