INFO:
Hopkin was a left winger. His career began in 1912 at Darlington, where he spent nearly a decade in the lower leagues. He transferred to Manchester United in 1919, having decent success. He then had his best period at Liverpool, making 360 appearances from 1921 to 1931, scoring 12 goals. He retired in 1931 after one more season at Darlington.
Even though he wasn't too fast anymore when he joined Liverpool, Hopkin was still distinguished for a rare turn of speed and his elusive dribbling. He played a lot along the touchline and was capable of sending perfect crosses. On the other hand, he was far from being prolific. He scored his first goal in 1923, in his seventy-eighth match with the "Reds", to the point that the fans started a fire in the Anfield stand as a joke to sell an incredible shock for the goal. Nonetheless, he filled his winger role amazingly. He was gifted with endless stamina, great skill, deft moves, quick runs, unselfishness proved by his consideration for his teammates in the forward line. His most notable dribbling was a run alongside a back, followed by a touch of the ball that made it look like he was losing it, but instead he would run around his opponent and take the ball with him. In order to stop him, the defender needed to cover both him and the ball. Injury-free in his ten years with Liverpool, Hopkin was always an ever-present starter.
