Kertesz played with an effortless style, displayed perfect technique, possessed remarkable instinct, and was a pinpoint passer, despite being hampered with weakness in one of his arms. Kertesz died in 1920 at the age of 28, a victim of a car accident. A halfback for most of his career, Kertesz was a top player in Hungary in the 1910s. A member of the club team, MTK Budapest, he helped them win the Hungarian Championship in 1914 and 1917-1918 (the league did not play in 1915 or 1916 due to World War II). Kertesz also played for the National team during this time (1911-1920) and appeared in 11 games, but did not score during his international career.
