Jack Mew was a goalkeeper. He spent almost his entire career at Manchester United, where he made 199 appearances from 1913 to 1926, although he played most of his matches from 1919 to 1923. He retired in 1927 after one season with Barrow. He capped for England once in 1920.
Mew had to carry the weight of Moger's departure, also dealing with a defence that conceded too many goals. Nonetheless, he proved himself capable of being relatively impressive. He could rely in particular on his remarkable jump and surprising power that made up for his lack of height. An ever-present from 1919 to 1923, he missed only 4 league games during this time span.
