INFO:Donaldson was a centre forward. He spent the majority of his career at Newton Heath, making 155 appearances from 1892 to 1898, scoring 66 goals. He played also for Blackburn Rovers, Luton Town, Glossop North End, and Ashford United, retiring in 1900. Considered one of Manchester United’s best players during the Newton Heath era, Donaldson was an excellent scorer, formidable in the attacking plays, and with a short but very well built physique. Strong as an ox, he possessed great power and was one of the hardest working centre forwards of the time. He was good in the air and an expert in the shoulder charge. He was at times criticised of holding the ball for too long. However, this meant that he received more tackles than any of his teammates while they had time to rest.
