INFO:Cassidy was an inside-left or centre forward. He spent the majority of his career at Newton Heath, where he played briefly in 1893 and from 1895 to 1900, for a total 174 appearances and 100 goals. He played also for Celtic, Manchester City and Middlesbrough, retiring from professional football in 1906 when he transferred to Workington.
Possibly the best striker of the Newton Heath era, Cassidy was the first man to score 100 goals for the club. Named team captain at the start of his second stay at the club, Cassidy was powerful, well-built and extremely effective in the penalty area. He possessed a great heading ability despite his small size, a keen eye for goal and a deadly instinct inside the box. In addition, he scored a bit less than 10 penalties for Newton Heath.
