INFO:Roberts was a centre-half. He spent almost his entire career at Manchester United, where he made 302 appearances from 1904 to 1913, scoring 23 goals. He played also for Grimsby Town in 1903-04 and Oldham Athletic from 1913 to 1915 when he retired. He capped for England 3 times in 1905.
Considered one of the greatest defensive players in Manchester United's history, Roberts was a prominent leader, strong, yet skillful and fast. He was the perfect player to fill the captain role, which he did from 1905 to 1913, thanks to his inspirational leadership, iron condition and self-sacrifice attitude. He possessed very good tackling, above-average positional sense and game reading ability. Furthermore, he wasn't just a stopper but he could also kick the ball well and scored a fair amount of goals for a defensive player of his era. He formed alongside Dick Duckworth and Alex Bell the famous
DuckRoBell midfield trio.
