Fogl began with the football game at Mezei Torna Club and moved in 1912 Újpesti Törekvés Sportegyesület. Two years later he joined the first division Újpesti TE, where he was to play until the end of his active career. He quickly developed into one of the strongest defenders of the league and could equally impress with his physical strength as well as its technical capabilities. Together with his brother Jozsef he formed a defensive pair in European football as Fogl lock (Fogl-gát) was known. In 1920 he was voted Footballer of the Year.
During his time in the Hungarian football was dominated by the two traditional clubs FTC and MTK, for Újpest gave it mostly for second or third places.
