Quote:
Blum played as one of those two side backs in the old format. Certainly one of the best ever Austrian defenders. His main strengths were excellent positioning and good pace. He scored also 68 goals in career, despite playing in defence, mainly from penalties and free kicks. He was strong player although he was calm, he wasn't a "terrier" like Vogts and his teammates Schramseis and Sesta. Undisputed captain of his teams for many years, he was the right hand of Hugo Meisl. They were even preparing the tactics together, Meisl would have asked him and if he agreed, they'd apply that tactics. Player with good vision, could make some good passes and start the attacks from the back line, and had strong shot equally comfortable with the right as well as left foot.
