INFO:

One of the most talented Italian players ever. Bernardini played on all positions, he was first excellent keeper made his debut as Lazio GK at age of 13 :!: , than moved to play. Italy's WC winning coach V.Pozzo said he didn't pick him up for World Cups '34 and '38 because he was too good, believe it or not. He rather preffered classic destroyers in the midfield like Ferraris. Bernardini had excellent technique and strong shot with his left foot which was his preffered foot although he was good also with right foot. Player with good passing range, little bit slow but tireless. Had good strength and was strong in aerial battles. The best "brain" in football was his reputation. He began his career with Lazio, which debuted October 19, 1919. Bernardini, who had previously played the goalkeeper in a square neighborhood (the Exquilia), before entering the Lazio wanted to audition with Fortitudo but found the gate closed he decided to go to Lazio. Initially he played as a goalkeeper then changed his role from 1921 and became a striker. There are discrepancies about the reasons for his decision to change roles. According to the book 80 years of passion: the history of Rome from 1926 to 2006 Bernardini had decided to change roles because of the four goals conceded in the match Naples-Lazio 4-2. According to other sources instead Bernardini decided to change role and become a striker due to a serious clash of the game, which took place in Fortitudo-Sydney, which made him lose consciousness and subsequent pressure from worried family. With Lazio, and came to the fore in 1922-23 with his team reached the championship final against Genoa. The Genoa team was much stronger and won easily 4-1 and 2-0, but the players were surprised by the class of Bernardini and Genoa player and captain Renzo De Vecchi even complimented him and predicted a great future. He made his debut in the national team on March 22, 1925 in the match Italy - France. In the summer of 1926 went to Inter of Luigi Cevenini. It was he who discovered the young Giuseppe Meazza. Bernardini often stayed after workouts, watching the games of youth teams and was deeply impressed by the striker of Inter Primavera. He insisted at first-team coach, Arpad Weisz, because the first team. Weisz then decided to see Meazza and was convinced that his midfielder had not exaggerated: in 1927 Meazza was in the first team. Meazza will recognize 'always, later, his debt of gratitude to its discoverer. Bernardini was later bought by Rome in 1928 that led from 1928 to 1939. He was also captain of his team, apparently on the request of Attilio Ferraris IV. Never got titles with Roma, but he is the soul of Rome. With Attilio Ferraris IV formed together a couple tough and charismatic. He had a great sense of tactics and techniques and was recognized as a great player before and then coach. He did not like the physicality of football but the use of technology, something that cost him his place in national world paradoxically led by Vittorio Pozzo in 1934 and 1938 for "excess of football intelligence" that was not properly understood and exploited by "male" Italian teams led by the coach. He racked up 286 appearances in all in red and yellow jersey, scoring as many as 45 goals. A few months after the farewell match for Bernardini, Roma also moved from the stage of Testaccio. It was the end of an era. Bernardini was later very successful coach, most notably with Fiorentina and Bologna. Fulvio Bernardini died on 13/01/1984.
