INFO:Fred Keenor, captain and talisman of Cardiff City and Wales during 1920's, was original football hard man. He had an unparalleled reputation for delivering violent, juggernaut challenges on the stars of the day such as Dixie Dean and Alex James. However, he was also regarded of being one of the country's great defenders by fans, player and critic alike.
Keenor abilities were scant. A terrible shot and unable to reliably run with the ball, his strenght lay in his commitment to the cause and his uncompromising tackling.
Although only 5ft 7lbs, Keenor was powerful defender. Such was his strenght that in 1919 he even sparred with the former European featherweight champion Jim Driscoll while the boxer was training at Ninian Park.
