Zhang Linpeng is a right or centre back and occasionally defensive midfielder. He spent most of his career at Guangzhou Evergrande, where he played from 2011 to 2021, making 328 appearances, scoring 18 goals. He played for Shanghai Port (at the time Shanghai East Asia) in his early career, signing for the club again in 2022. He capped for China 94 times so far, scoring 5 goals.
Nicknamed "Zhangmos" for his similarity in looks and playstyle to Spanish defender Sergio Ramos, Zhang Linpeng is a very good defender, described as "the best Chinese footballer in the Super League" by Marcello Lippi during his coaching period at Guangzhou Evergrande. An offensive minded defender, Zhang possesses a good passing and excellent crossing ability ─ sometimes with good curling ─ preferring to use his natural right foot but proving to be comfortable with the left too. In fact, he provided over 30 assists for Guangzhou Evergrande so far. He's gifted with decent pace on long distance and good dribbling especially with movements to the side that he uses before crossing the ball. He's also a good finisher, particularly with long range shots, and a threat in the air as he scored numerous headers. Despite being focused mainly on the attack, he's stable in the defence, and known for his strength and fierce tackling ability. Although doesn't speak much, he's a leader on the field as he uses his style of play to inspire his teammates. In fact, he has great sense of responsibility and refuses to accept defeat.
