Khoukhi is a centre back or central midfielder, who can also play as side or wing back and side or attacking midfielder ─ he even played in attack as winger in his early years. He spent the majority of his career at Al-Arabi, where he made 135 appearances from 2009 to 2017, scoring 32 goals. He's been playing for Al-Sadd since 2017 and played 119 matches so far, scoring 16 times. He gained 97 caps for Qatar and scored 20 goals so far, winning the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and being included in the Team of the Tournament.
A right-footed highly versatile player who covered almost all positions, Khoukhi lacks a bit of speed and agility but is gifted with great fighting spirit. He has decent ball control and sometimes tries to dribble his opponent but doesn't always manage to, preferring most of the times to set up the action with short passes. Less frequently, he delivers long balls especially when he plays in a defensive role. Either he acts as centre back or central midfielder, he often switches position switches position with a defender or a midfielder throughout the match depending on his original position and the action plan. Very effective in the defence, he's an excellent man marker and strong tackler who blocks the opposing attacks well, he's good at intercepting the ball and anticipating his opponent with great timing. He's also strong in the air, a threatening header inside the opposing box, possesses good shooting ability that he sometimes shows even when rushing forward despite playing in the defensive zone, scored several penalties during his time at Al-Arabi and some free kicks.
