Azmoun is a centre forward, capable of playing as secondary striker. His career began at Rubin Kazan, where he played from 2013 to January 2015 and from 2017 to January 2019, for a total of 77 matches and 17 goals. He had a more prolific experience at Rostov from 2015 to 2017, scoring 25 goals in 77 appearances. He had his best seasons so far at Zenit as he scored 62 times in 104 games from 2019 to January 2022, when he signed for Bayer Leverkusen. His career in Germany has been far from good. He capped for Iran 65 times and scored 41 goals to date.
A right-footed striker, accurate with his left too, Azmoun is considered the true successor of the legendary Ali Daei. He's distinguished for remarkable technical and dribbling skills, elegant ball control and agile movements, high speed and bursts of acceleration on the ball, great positioning inside the box, dangerous first time shot, excellent heading ability mainly due to a notable elevation that allows him to anticipate and overjump his marker. Also, he's a fine set piece taker as he scored some penalties with clubs and at least one free kick with Iran, and he can be a good target man who receives and defends the ball with his body and technique before passing it to a teammate. On the other hand he's not too strong in physical contact despite possessing a good build. In addition to his offensive qualities, he's gifted with remarkable vision, good short ball distribution and great unselfishness. In fact, he can move to the midfield, intercept the passes of the opposing defenders, and start an offensive play with good passes.
