Jorginho is a defensive or central midfielder. His career began in 2009 at Hellas Verona, where he played 4 Coppa Italia matches in his first season before being loaned to Sambonifacese in Lega Pro. He came back to Verona, playing 96 more games from 2011 to January 2014, scoring 11 goals. Transferred to Napoli, he had four and a half excellent seasons, making 160 appearances and scoring 6 goals. He joined Chelsea in 2018, playing 213 matches and scoring 29 goals until he signed for Arsenal in January 2023. Naturalized Italian in 2016, he capped for Italy 47 times so far, scoring 5 goals and winning the 2020 UEFA Euro.
A midfielder capable of linking defence and attack, he's though mostly known for his ball distribution. He can dictate the tempo with quickly delivered short passes and through passes that compensate of his quite slow movements. His long passes are excellent as well, though he couldn't always rely on forwards who would make the best of them. Also, they start an attacking play but rarely are final passes. Therefore, he never registered a high number of assists. While his crosses are usually soft and slow, he can also deliver fast first time passes. Technically gifted, he's not the best dribbler but he knows well how to keep and defend the ball. He's not notably strong from a physical standpoint and his tackles sometimes lack of timing, feature seen especially in his years at Chelsea, but his defensive contribution is still good as he can cover the ground in front of the back-line, intercept balls and even support his defenders inside his own area. Not a very good finisher from active play, he though proved to be an excellent penalty taker, mostly during his Chelsea time, scoring from the spot 27 of his 29 goals. Nonetheless, he showed a solid shot technique from time to time, attempting nice curled shots from outside the area as Napoli player, and scoring a good first time shot from the edge of the area as Chelsea player.
