INFO:
Kalaba is a former side midfielder or winger, usually on the left, and capable of playing as attacking midfielder. His career started in 2005. He played in Zambia for Kitwe United and ZESCO United, in France for Nice B, and in Portugal for Sporting Braga, Gil Vicente and União de Leiria. He eventually had his most successful time in DR Congo at Mazembe where he played from 2011 to 2023, scoring 78 goals in 280 appearances. He capped for Zambia 108 times, scoring 15 goals and winning the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
One of the most exciting players Zambia has ever produced, Kalaba is widely regarded as the country's best modern playmaker. He was distinguished by cunning, boldness, pace and vision. He was so quick with the ball since a young age that his opponents would that he disappeared from their sight. No one could match his prowess on the ball. He could steal the ball from an opponent after catching up with him easily. Then, he would carry the ball forward and dribble some opponents if necessary thanks to his trickery and powerful legs, keeping the ball to his feet like a magnet. And whenever he received a pass, even a long one, he showed flawless ball control which was always praised by the commentators. He was a remarkable scorer, especially with his clubs, thanks to a wicked right foot. He was also the main set piece taker for Zambia. In addition to his shooting and technical qualities, he was a midfield maestro who possessed outstanding vision and great crossing skills. Although he didn't win the 2012 African Cup MVP award, he was arguably the best player in Zambia's team throughout the competition.
