Denis is a centre forward. His career began in 1997 in Argentina. He played for Talleres de Remedios de Escalada, Quilmes, and Los Andes. He transferred to Italy, playing for Cesena in 2002-03. He came back to his native country, joining Arsenal de Sarandí in 2003. He then had excellent seasons at Colón in 2005-06 and Independiente from 2006 to 2008. Once again, he transferred to Italy. After a fine two-year spell at Napoli from 2008 to 2010 and the following year at Udinese, he had his best time at Atalanta, scoring 56 goals in 158 appearances from 2011 to February 2016 and filling the captain role. Afterwards, he had a second experience at Independiente, and played for Lanús, Universitario de Deportes and Reggina. He signed for Italian Serie D team Real Calepina in 2022. He capped for Argentina 5 times.
A tall and strong right-footed striker, equally accurate with the left foot, Denis was capable of holding the forward line by himself, using his imposing physique and remarkable technical skills to keep and defend the ball while the rest of his team advanced. Other than possessing great sense of position, an accurate though not particuarly powerful shot and the ability to score with volleys as well as excellent headers, he could be a very good assist-man who protected the ball until he could deliver a short pass to an unmarked teammate. He also had solid pace on the distance that allowed him to start dangerous counter-attacks. A penalty specialist during his time at Atalanta, he scored 14 times from the penalty spot.
