Danilo is a centre back. His career started in Brazil in 2002. He played for Paulista and Ituano before transferring in 2005 to Atlético Paranaense, where he made 152 appearances and scored 10 goals in four seasons. After spending three years at Palmeiras, he joined Udinese. He had his best time in the Italian club, playing 282 matches from 2011 to 2018, scoring 11 goals. Even though he spent several years at Udinese, he was involved multiple times in disagreements with the club or the fans. He played for Bologna from 2018 to 2021 and signed for Parma at the beginning of the following season.
Danilo is a good and smart man-marking defender whose trademarks are anticipation and positional sense. Also, he's quite strong, a solid tackler, can read the game and is very capable in the aerial game. In fact, he scored most of his goals with headers. He's not particularly able in the dribbling but he's in possession of solid technique as he occasionally scored with fine volleys or long range shots using either foot and can leave his own area with the ball, showing decent pace in the process despite his physique. He has good consistency even though he's prone to commit fouls as he received over 60 cards during his time at Udinese, 2 of them being direct red.
