Chanathip is an attacking midfielder, who can play also as secondary striker and winger. His career began in 2012 at BEC Tero Sasana, where he played 118 matches and scored 13 goals in four seasons, winning the 2014 Thai League Cup. He joined in 2016 Muangthong United, where he stayed for two seasons, scoring 6 times in 60 games, winning a Thai League 1, a Thai League Cup and a Thai Champions Cup. He's been playing in Japan for Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo since 2017 and has scored 15 goals in 99 appearances so far. He gained 56 caps for Thailand, scoring 8 goals, winning two AFF Championships and a King's Cup. He was named AFF Championship MVP in 2014 and 2016 and was included in the 2018 J.League Best XI.
Nicknamed by fans "Thai Messi", Chanathip is arguably the best active Thai player. He mainly provides scoring chances for his teammates thanks to a good passing ability. A short player, he can read the game well and is renowned for his pace ─ especially on acceleration ─ agility, body balance and dribbling that allow him to handle from one to three opponens while in possession of the ball by using quick and unpredictable tricks and turns. Capable with either foot, his powerful and accurate long range shots in particular are a threat for the goalkeepers. Surprisingly, he managed to score some headers despite his very short size.
