Did they ever use that formation? The usual formation at that time was the 3-2-5 system (or sometimes 2-3-5) and I highly doubt that it was different in Italy at that time..
Same goes for your other teams in the 1940s section btw, almost of all of them have those strange formations..

Triestina was one of the first team in Europe to play with the Catenacchio scheme: a sweeper (Ivano Blason), three markers, two halves in the middle, an attacking midfielder, two wings and a centre-forward.

This is the correct lineup:

---------------------------1 Striuli

---------------------------2 Blason

4 Zorzin------------------5 Sessa--------------------3 Radio

-------------8 Trevisan-----------------6 Giannini

-----------------------------10 Tosolini

7 Rossetti------------------9 Ispiro-------------------11 Begni

I read all the game reports of Triestina in 1947-48 and the line-ups always reported two defenders and three midfielders.
Yes, Blason wasn't stuck in the marking role and had more freedom but the starting line-up was still 2-3-5. Then, you can make him act like a sweeper in game.
