HONOURS:English First Division: 4th
FA Cup: Quarter-Finals
League Cup: Winner
HOME & AWAY KITS:INFO:https://thesefootballtimes.co/2019/07/1 ... eague-cup/When Ron Saunders took over from Vic Crowe in 1974, he was the 6th manager in 10 years. He inherited the nucleus of a sound team, who was soon heading to their 3rd League Cup final. He was a fitness fanatic, whose brand of no-nonsense man-management proved effective, with the club winning the League Cup the following season and, by the end of season 1974–75, he had taken Aston Villa back into the First Division and into Europe.
Villa were back among the elite as Saunders continued to mould a winning team, finishing fourth in the League and reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Andy Gray was joint winner of England's golden boot with Arsenal's Malcolm Macdonald in 1976–77. Gray's 29 goals helped Villa and earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year and PFA Players' Player of the Year awards. Two years after their last League Cup win, they won another League Cup in 1976–77, in the never ending final they beat Everton 3–2 after a second replay.
