In the first five years of the last decade of the 20th century, San Lorenzo had already worked with two different sports brands: Uhisport and Topper until Penalty arrived in 1994 to be the new designer of San Lorenzo's clothing. During the first year with Penalty, they maintained a classic design without fanfare, under the main sponsor of Medicorp.

Due to a sudden change of sponsor and an error in the manufacturing of the shirts by the Brazilian brand Penalty, San Lorenzo played the first dates of the tournament with the same equipment as in the previous year but with a badly done Cablevisión print made in a hurry.

A few dates passed until Penalty finally replaced that series of rushed kits with its new model: they replaced the three thin blue stripes with a wider central one along with two others that were located on the edges of the kit, on both sides. The emblem of the brand and the club's badge maintained their place and size, as well as the colors, which were not modified either.
