ALTERNATE PLAYERS

*Roman OGAZA was a collective and technical center forward, in the style of the french player Bernard Lacombe.Selected in the national team until september 1981, he was replaced by the new generation symbolized by Andrzej Palasz.

*Wojciech RUDY was a tenacious and effective left fullback, with a powerful left shot, having worn the captain's armband in selection. The kind of player would have been very useful to mitigate injuries in this position, as it was the case during the competition for Jan Jalocha and Marek Dziuba on the right flank, Stefan MAJEWSKI preferring to play in central defense or as a defensive/central midfielder.

*Antoni SZYMANOWSKI was asked why he didn't go to the World Cup in Spain and replied: "I was called to the last training camp in Germany before the World Cup. After a preparation match where I scored a goal, the coach said I was not part of his team organization idea, but I was ok with being a substitute, after all it was about participating in the World Cup. It seems that the coach called me to the last group before the World Cup just to please the public ".

*Jan TOMAZEWSKI said that he didn't want to travel all over Europe to find out that he would be sitting on the bench, especially since with Młynarczyk there was an extra goalkeeper, Piotr Mowlik. At the time, he indicated that, having no aspirations to play in the national team, he had accepted the fact that Młynarczyk was number one. This decision was greatly regretted by coach Piechniczek who said: “It's a shame, because I was counting on Tomaszewski. He was the only Pole playing in the Spanish league, so his knowledge of these realities could not be overestimated. I really wanted to take him to the World Cup. Mowlik went to the World Cup only because Tomaszewski withdrew.”
