Christian KEGLEVITS said in an interview : " I was very disappointed not going to Spain, I was even in the Panini album. Georg Schmidt has repeatedly assured me that I will be taken. In the end, Max Hagmayr went to Spain in my place. The coaching staff was punished for this action because Hagmayr was later dismissed due to the problems in the World Cup team".

Felix GASSELICH, nickmaned "the second Prohaska", played in the qualification phase before finally not being retained, which did not prevent him from being hired by Ajax Amsterdam.He would later say that coach Felix Latzke, a tough and authoritarian man, did not understand his way of training and had kicked him out of the group.

Hans-Dieter MIRNEGG was during the qualification phase the holder of the left-back position and appeared in the Panini album. The choice to go play in Italy in Como, where the team had a very bad season, finally rejected him from the selection.

Erwin FUCHSBICHLER was second goalkeeper for Austria in 1978 World Cup. In the spring of 1982, however, Felix Latzke no longer appreciated his services in national team and he stayed at home.
