I don't know colombian football anything but, escobar was colombia national team captain. and escobar was maybe top class defender in south america and 1980's, and escobar is famous colombia footballer.
I think escobar should be first team.

Team is still to imbalanced, with 6 CBs and two SBs, even if Cordoba can play as SB as well..
And one thing that I can say (even if I don't "know" this team or its history): Yepes never played as left-back, he always was CB..

Probably Armero don't have a chance here.

Not actually, Aside that Konami always gave him SB (on the left side) as secondary position, early on his career as a youngster, he was a forward, but due to his height Reinaldo Rueda decided that he should in defense, first as as LB, then as a CB..

(in Spanish though, but is on the "De '9' a '3'" section)

There are too many defenders on reserves and i can't tell who should leave in order to make room for him..

Yes there are no good side backs, for sure Luis Herrera will stay in first team (who will go in reserves?), do you have other names?

Herrera isn't on the the first team.

Well, actually i'd add a LB since there are no good left backs, godoy put Osorio as one in his original team, but as far as i know he was more right back, but then he should know him better than me since he's Colombian..

Segovia wasn't just a RB, he actually played in pretty much everywhere on the pitch, specially as CMF, AMF, even as SS/CF according to him = > http://www.elespectador.com/deportes/fu ... ulo-626449

Quote:

Armero isn't actually a bad choice after all if we want a true LB.

I guess Osorio (Same generation) is the best option.

@Steven123 1) if you want to post player stats, there's a Stats Practice section. 2) if you post a player, post him by following the rules of the forum. 3) there's no need for posting a player who already has stats here, this can be useful only if you post his stats from another era.

These posts will probably be deleted soon.

Spoiler: show
The coach has to be either Francisco Maturana or José Pékerman. Maturana coached the team in four different spells, has 50 wins in 105 matches and won the 2001 Copa América. Pékerman has the longest single stint as coach from 2012 to 2018, has 43 wins in 78 matches and led the team to its best World Cup result in 2014.

GOALKEEPERS:
I'm thinking about Óscar Córdoba and David Ospina in the first team.
● Córdoba (73 caps) played in the 1994 World Cup and won the 2001 Copa América, Colombia's biggest accomplishment so far.
● Ospina (124 so far) was featured in the 2014 and 2018 WC, where Colombia had respectively its best and second best performances.

I'd keep in the reserves René Higuita (no need to add anything for him), Efraín Sánchez and one between Faryd Mondragón and Pedro Zape.
● Sánchez (30) is regarded as one of Colombia's best goalkeepers and was featured in the team's first ever World Cup as captain but I feel like Ospina deserves the place in the first team.
● The third spot in the reserves can be occupied by Mondragón (51) who played in the 1998 WC or Zape (47) who played in the 1975 CA where Colombia finished runner-up. I'd rather choose Zape.

DEFENDERS:
The current team has too many centre backs. The presence of Iván Córdoba (73 caps) and Mario Yepes (102) is obvious as both are winners of the 2001 CA where Córdoba was captain while Yepes was captain in the 2014 WC. The third centre back may be Cristián Zapata (59) who was featured in the 2014 WC. To be honest though I'm not convinced by this choice. Instead of Zapata, we might have one of them:
● Andrés Escobar (50) was featured in the 1990 WC, where Colombia qualified to the round-of-16.
● Miguel Escobar (18) is regarded as an emblematic figure from the 1970s.
● Francisco Zuluaga (reportedly only 9 caps) is considered one of the best players in Colombia football history and he's remembered for having scored Colombia's first ever WC goal.
● Luis Carlos Perea (78) who played in the 1990 and 1994 WC is, in my opinion, another valid choice.
The right backs can be Arturo Segovia (36), considered one of the best Colombian right backs and runner-up in the 1975 CA, and Camilo Zúñiga (61), featured in the 2014 WC. On the other side I'd have Óscar Bolaño (27), considered one of the best Colombian left backs and he as well runner-up in the 1975 CA, and Pablo Armero (68), regular starter in the 2014 WC.

Whoever is chosen for the first team, six more reserves are needed. My choices are as following:
● Santiago Arias (54) RB, 2014 and 2018 WC
● Jorge Bermúdez (56) CB, 1998 WC
● Luis Fernando Herrera (61) RB, 1990 and 1994 WC
● Luis Amaranto Perea (75) CB and RB
● Wilson Pérez (47) LB, 1994 WC, I'd have him for the lack of left backs
● Davinson Sánchez (49 so far) CB, 2018 WC

A few alternatives can be:
● Wilmer Cabrera (48) RB, 1998 WC
● Alexis Mendoza (67) CB, 1994 WC
● Jerry Mina (39 and 7 goals so far) CB, 2018 WC

MIDFIELDERS:
I focused on the 1990s and 2010s for the midfield.
● Abel Aguilar (72 and 6 goals) CM/DM, 2014 and 2018 WC
● Leonel Álvarez (101) DM, 1990 and 1994 WC
● Juan Cuadrado (111/10 so far) SM/SB but can be deployed almost everywhere, 2014 and 2018 WC
● Freddy Rincón (84/17) AM/CM/SM, 1990, 1994 and 1998 WC
● James Rodríguez (86/24 so far) AM/SM/SS, 2014 WC where he was top scorer
● Carlos Sánchez (88) DM/CM, 2014 and 2018
● Carlos Valderrama, captain in three WC in a row and we know the rest

In the reserves I'd have these players:
● Gerardo Bedoya (48/4) DM/CM/LB, 2001 CA
● Alejandro Brand (18/1) AM, considered one of Colombia's greats of the 70s
● Gabriel Gómez (49/2) CM, 1990 and 1994 WC
● Freddy Grisales (41/6) SM/CM/AM, 2001 CA
● Fredy Guarín (58/4) CM/DM/AM, 2014 WC
● Giovanni Hernández (46/5) SM/AM, 2001 CA
● Harold Lozano (48/3) CM/DM, 1998 WC
● Bernardo Redín (40/5) CM/AM, 1990 WC
● Mauricio Serna (51/2) DM, 1998 WC
Because one last player is needed and, if you want, someone can be replaced, here are some alternatives:
● Wilmar Barrios (52) DM, 2018 WC
● Marco Coll (11/5) DM, 1962 WC and remembered for scoring from direct corner kick against Lev Yashin
● Hernán Herrera (40/10) AM
● Fabián Vargas (41) CM/DM, 2001 CA

FORWARDS:
And last the forwards. I'd keep the current players with the addition of centre forward Víctor Aristizábal (66 caps and 15 goals) who was featured in the 1998 WC and won the 2001 CA. So, let's see the reserves.
● Juan Pablo Ángel (33/9) CF
● Carlos Arango (22/6) considered one of Colombia's historic players, he was called-up for the 1962 WC but unfortunately didn't play
● Carlos Bacca (52/16) CF
● Anthony De Ávila (54/13) SS/WF/CF, 1994 WC
● Ernesto Díaz (29/7) RW, 1975 CA and considered one of the best ever Colombian players
● Luis Díaz (35/8) WF, in my opinion can be already included in the reserves
● Teófilo Gutiérrez (51/15) CF, 2014 WC
● Jackson Martínez (40/9) CF, 2014 WC
● Jaime Morón (17+6) LW/CF
● Luis Muriel (45/8) CF/SS
● Iván Valenciano (29/13) CF
Of course, there's one forward too many but I have no idea who can be left out. Any suggestion?

Since there are too many good CBs I'd keep 4 of them in first team (Cordoba can play RB too) and 3 SBs + Cuadrado.

I think Higuita is much more important and iconic for Colombian football than Ospina so I'd choice him for first team.

Formation is their classic Maturana's 4-2-2-2/4-4-2, so these are my choices:

GK: O. Cordoba, Higuita

RB: Herrera, Segovia

LB: this is hard choice no one of them is remarkable, so one between Armero, Zuniga, Bolano, Osorio

CB: A. Escobar, I. Cordoba, Yepes and I'd choose one between Bermudez, M. Escobar and Zuluaga.

DM/CM: Aguilar and Sanchez are average players, imho Serna or Lozano and even Gomez were better than them, I don't know Coll so I can't rate him. I'd choose L. Alvarez, Serna and Lozano.

RM/LM/AM: Valderrama, Rincon, James, Cuadrado, Ortiz.

CF: Asprilla, Valencia, Falcao, Gamboa, Iguaran.

If I'm not wrong there is 1 place remaining, I'd choose a CMF.

We keep only one LB because Cuadrado can play in this position too, right? Zúñiga barely played as LB for Colombia so I consider him an RB. I'd keep Bolaño for the reasons I
mentioned in my previous post. Miguel Escobar can be the last CB.
One place is, indeed, remaining but if we add another CMF, that'd make it 9 midfielders. Willington Ortiz should be moved to the forwards since his main position is set as SS.
That said, I'd keep Abel Aguilar as last CMF but if you don't rate him good enough, Gabriel Gómez can be the choice as you suggested.
