Even if you don't choose him as striker (where he started his career before playing as AMF later in his career) he is an absolute must for this team since he was easily one of Africa's most dominant players in the 1970s, both at club and NT level. Yeboah also was also much better than M'Boma and George, no matter if the latter won UCL with Ajax, he certainly wasn't some sort of extraordinary player (similar to many of his team mates who lived from their speed and then saw their careers going downhill as fast as they ran before). Oudjani also should be in reserves. |

I have the same thought about Finidi and Souleymane. That's why I had the latter as possible choice. So, we can have Souleymane, Yeboah and Oudjani instead of M'Boma, Finidi and who else? |

gurkenjoe93 wrote: While I don't have time to update the team in general, I have a suggestion for the first team here: Spoiler: show THIS looks much better than first post. Benatia is def the weekest of all the defenders. I would put Kuffour over him. I also rate Babayaro higher than Taiwo but that's just my opinion. Also, Édouard Mendy should be added to keepers. I think a 3-2-3-2 starting XI would be more appropriate to open space for Salah. Something like: GK Thomas N’KONO DF Mustapha ZITOUNI DF Kalidou KOULIBALY DF Noureddine NAYBET / Stephen KESHI DM Michael ESSIEN DM Yaya TOURE RW Mohamed SALAH AM ABEDI PELÉ LW Samuel ETO’O FW George WEAH FW Didier DROGBA |

Africa has had way too many great or at least interesting players to fill a thread without including hundreds of names. Anyway, the first team suggested here by gurkenjoe93 is fine to me. The only changes that I'd make are: Essam EL-HADARY <- Joseph-Antoine BELL Samuel KUFFOUR <- Mehdi BENATIA El-Hadary is, in my opinion, an automatic choice in the first squad considering his numbers, awards and the fact that he's a three-time African Cup of Nations winner as a starter. Kuffour is often regarded as one of Africa's greatest defenders and his career at Bayern München was remarkable, although he wasn't always a first choice. Benatia's career though never impressed me. Sure, he had his physical problems. But still, I think he can be among the reserves. Most names currently in the reserves are alright. I have some different names here and there. I considered many different awards, African Cup of Nations wins, overall careers, and I tried to include a few players from countries like Ethiopia, Gambia, Sudan, Zambia. It's not easy though. You can have certain names or replace them with others. Eventually, you'll always feel that the thread looks good and that it's missing some players at the same time. |

I considered him for the first team but I have no idea who he may replace. No way Oliseh should be in the first team, let alone in the best XI. There are many African midfielders who had a more consistent career. Ghoulam has been a solid left-back but his peak was way too short for a spot in the first team. I'm not sure I'd have him in the reserves either. I've always considered Song as an overrated defender. Good player but no more than that. Zitouni, Koulibaly, Keshi, Kuffour, Radebe were all better than him, in my opinion. Trabelsi could go in the first team, maybe instead of Lauren if we consider the NT careers. Trabelsi had a better one. But Lauren was a better player, often regarded as one of the greatest African right-backs. |

Oliseh was an important player in Nigeria's golden era (USA'94), when Italy won only thanks to Roberto Baggio. Sunday impressed me a lot. Ghoulam also impressed me a lot, when he played for Napoli with Sarri as coach, he was one of the best full-backs in Europe, unfortunately he had serious injuries. I wanted to choose Lauren as right back, I was undecided between him and Trabelsi, but Trabelsi seemed to me to be a good defender in both the defensive and offensive phases. |

I would argue Hakimi deserves the Right-back spot. I know he's still young but given his ability and how amazing he performed in the last World Cup (the best performance of any African nation in history) I would put him above Lauren and Trabelsi personally. |

I agree. In fact, I pointed out in my second last post that the first team gurkenjoe93 suggested time ago is totally fine, and he included Hakimi. |

Yes that team is near enough perfect and is basically the team I use in-game |

Salah must be a starter IMO. He already fight for the title of greatest African footballer of all time. Apart of that, I agree with Interista93 on everything he said except one thing: I don't rate El-Hadary higher than Bell. His numbers doesn't necessarily translates how good he was. In fact, I wouldn't rate him higher than Grobbelaar or Zaki either. |
