Alan Hansen should definitely not be in this team, while he is the best Scottish defender of all time he didn’t play much for the national team. It should be Gough or McLeish instead of him.

James McFadden should also replace Duncan Ferguson in the reserves: Dunc hardly ever played for us and didn’t score a single goal, whereas McFadden was our best player for about 5 years or so and scored Scotland’s most iconic goal since 1998. And Joe Jordan definitely deserves to be in the team, I’d replace Billy Liddell with him.

Why should Liddell be replaced here? This squad has already 4 CFs (+ Dalglish could take play in that position as well), so I'd rather choose McGrory than Liddell (who is the only backup for the two wing positions)..

True, I didn't notice the lack of wingers, and McGrory while a fantastic player never really feature much for the national team. Jordan is more iconic than both of them but for sake of squad balance, it should be McGrory that he replaces.

I also feel like Meiklejohn isn't really required, there are already 3 defensive minded midfielders in Mackay, Bremner and Souness, all of whom I'd consider better players and were longer servants to the team. I'd love to see Archie Gemmill replace him, a huge part of our best team ever and the man behind arguably the greatest single moment in Scottish football history.

Also, I’d rather see Paul McStay or McAllister in first team than Alex James, he did pretty much nothing for Scotland apart from one game, the other two were important parts of the team for a decade and both were captain too. I’ll try and fill out some of the missing players too ;)

Why is Ronnie Simpson included?

Made debut as a 36 year old and only played 5 games during one year in total for the national team.....
